"First YT Vid"

Uploaded my first YT vid today, featuring a short Allegretto by F. Carulli. Had already started a channel, but there was no content there up until today. Before I could finally do this, I had to get a grasp of how to do this first: Decided on the free, open-source, multi-platform program "shotcut", which does everything I need. Then made an intro, a card containing information on the pieces and then recorded the piece. Well, the recording is a one-shot, but it was not the first I taped. It's far from perfect, but there it is. You can find my Youtube channel and the vid here.

The String Incident

Funny thing happened last weekend, when I finally started to change the strings on my Koaloha: I took off the strings, then thought, hey, I really should use the opportunity to clean the fretboard, with the strings off and all. Took some paper towel and a little water and did some first cleaning, then read up on the next step: lemon oil! Didn't have lemon oil, so looked if there are alternatives -- but no, better not use some random oil not meant for wood/instruments, even danger of doing damage. So would have to get some lemon oil in the music store the next day.
Shortly after, when transporting the uke from A to B, I absentmindedly wanted to chime some chords while walking. Was so used to strings always being on there that I was completely surprised and shocked that this was not the case! I had forgotten I took them off a few minutes earlier, and was taken aback that I couldn't do a quick strum on the uke I play all the time, like I had done numerous times before.
Really felt weird with that "crippled" uke in my hand.
I am happy to say, newly-bought lemon oil has been applied in the meantime, new strings on as well and almost settled, and life is back to normal.

"Swingin' Castle"

"Swingin' Castle" at Burg Fürsteneck from September 16-18 2022! Met lots of people from the German fb community and many more. The first "Swingin' Castle" offered different courses all around Swing music (ukulele, ensembles, dance), with the idea of members of different courses complementing and enriching each other.
Fine food, fine, friendly people, Bad Mouse Orchestra & Friends concert, dancing, joint final concert of all courses, it was a blast!

Nanoblock Has A Uke Too

Discovered this a while back and thought I'd share: nanoblock is a Japanese company, and they make blocks like Lego, just smaller. They produce all sorts of things, including musical instruments. Best of all, there is a nanoblock version of the uke as well, including a Lei (Hawaiian flower wreath). I made a stand for the Lei out of cardboard myself.
