The String Incident
October 24, 2020
Funny thing happened last weekend, when I finally started to change the strings on my Koaloha:
I took off the strings, then thought, hey, I really should use the opportunity to clean the fretboard, with the strings off and all.
Took some paper towel and a little water and did some first cleaning, then read up on the next step:
lemon oil! Didn't have lemon oil, so looked if there are alternatives -- but no, better not
use some random oil not meant for wood/instruments, even danger of doing damage. So would have to get some lemon oil in the music store the next day.
Shortly after, when transporting the uke from A to B, I absentmindedly wanted to chime some chords while walking.
Was so used to strings always being on there that I was completely surprised and shocked that this was not the case! I had forgotten I took them off a few minutes earlier,
and was taken aback that I couldn't do a quick strum on the uke I play all the time, like I had done numerous times before.
Really felt weird with that "crippled" uke in my hand.
I am happy to say, newly-bought lemon oil has been applied in the meantime, new strings on as well and almost settled, and life is back to normal.
